About this Event

Stephan Graf von Bothmer interprets the expressionist drama by the German horror master Paul Leni: The film tells the story of Gwynplaine (Conrad Veidt), whose mouth was surgically altered as a child to create a permanent smile. This disfigurement makes him a freak – and a star. The only woman who loves him is blind and must never learn the truth about his appearance and his deeply sad inner self.
