TATAMI is considered the first joint feature film collaboration between an Iranian and an Israeli director—a unique constellation in terms of both content and production. The film centers on an Iranian judoka who, during an international tournament, comes under massive political pressure from the Iranian regime not to compete against an Israeli judoka. The film uses concentrated black-and-white images to tell a story of personal integrity, self-determination, and the real costs of freedom – especially for women who are visible in authoritarian contexts.
