“The woman who has strayed from the right path” – that is Violetta Valéry, who leads a life between splendor and misery as a noble courtesan in Paris. Everything is just games and appearances, including love, until Alfredo Germont awakens true feelings in her. But happiness is a rare guest and only short-lived: Violetta, who suffers from consumption, is first humiliated and, after a final flicker of her vital strength, fades away.
