Katharina Thalbach reads from the first novel by the Berlin-born author Irmgard Keun, which made her famous overnight in 1931. With Gilgi, Keun created one of those modern and self-confident women whose books were banned by the Nazis: the story of a young woman in the Weimar Republic who finds her own path to independence between paternalism, economic and emotional dependencies.
