Eva Diamant is twelve years old when the Soviet army liberates her in Auschwitz in January 1945. Together with illustrator Stephanie Lunkewitz and accompanied by expressive pictures, she tells her moving story of survival in this book. It is the story of a sheltered childhood in a middle-class Jewish family in Budapest, of her initial ostracism at school, her escape from Hungary, the loss of her father, mother and brother and finally her deportation to the Auschwitz concentration camp. But it is also a story of love, friendship and support.
