"I didn't have time to finish writing..." This is how Selma Merbaum's only surviving collection of poems, Blütenlese, ends. At just 18 years old, the Jewish woman died of typhus in 1942 at the German forced-labor camp Michailowka in Ukraine. She left behind a body of work consisting of 57 poems, which are now considered part of world literature.
