The year was 1957 and it all began in a backyard in Grünauer Straße, the headquarters of Zeuke & Wegwerth KG. Inspired by the western company ROKAL, which had introduced the TT gauge on a scale of 1:120 almost a decade earlier, the aim was to develop an equally compact system for mass production. This was to fit into any home and yet offer enough detail to be in no way inferior to the larger H0 scale. Zeuke thus laid the foundation for the most successful gauge in the small GDR and in many of its socialist brother countries.
