Berlin is an excellent example of the complexity of urban development. The unification of two cities overnight and the influx of more than 400,000 people since 1989 have had a major impact on the city. This change includes changes in traffic volumes, the conversion of old industrial sites (especially in the east) and the emergence of new business districts, which are often in the immediate vicinity of former problem areas.
