DAY TRIP. to The Museum of Utopia and Everyday Life (Eisenhüttenstadt)

**Visit to Museum and walk around the town and sculpture park** * sunset view over the Oder. Meet Time 9:10 Ostkreuz Platfrom 1 Duration: Whole Day. For any of you free in the weekdays this January, here is a mid-week expedition to an interesting town just an hour and a half away. We will walk round the town, visit the Museum of Utopia and Everyday Life and climb up to a viewing point to watch sunset over the Oder. Eisenhüttenstadt is a town that takes you back to the Utopian core of the DDR. The new town was built as an all-of-a-piece modern ideal for the workers at the local steel works. The population climbed by a factor of 5 from the 1950s to 1990, but has since more than halved. Lots of architectural interest from the 1950s and Plattenbau DDR styles. Or just get on the RE1 to Frankfurt Oder anywhere in Berlin and meet us on the train that departs Ostkreuz at 9:16. Walking: This is not really a walk, but Eisenhüttenstadt is spread out, so if we do the full Rundgang of all the sites on foot it is about 8 km. - lots of breaks and options to skip for those who dont want to do this.
