**Día de los Muertos** (Day of the Dead) is a vibrant holiday, primarily celebrated in Mexico, that takes place between October 31st and November 2nd. The spirits of the deceased return to spend some time among the living. Families and friends gather to welcome the souls of their beloved departed. The altar (Ofrenda) is decorated with mementos, flowers, candles, sweets, liquor, food, and cigarettes—all of which are gifts for the beloved departed.
