Two couples, who find themselves in different constellations, driven by a bet about alleged and actual infidelity, are at the centre of Mozart's Così fan tutte (‘So machen's alle’ – ‘That's how they all do it’), with the concise subtitle ‘La scuola degli amanti’ (‘The School for Lovers’). The witty text by librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte inspired the accomplished opera composer Mozart to write music that is equally profound.
