May Ayim was a poet, educator, activist, and co-founder of the Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland (ISD). In blues in schwarz weiss, the book of poetry published right before her early death, Ayim finds a concise, poetic language to express moments from her childhood, her longing for love and connection, as well as her experiences with racism and exclusion.
