
On January 18, 1701, Frederick III, Elector of Brandenburg, crowned himself in Königsberg, Eastern Europe. This act held great symbolic significance. From that day forward, he styled himself Frederick I of Prussia. With this elevation in rank, Frederick sought to secure a new place for himself among the European powers. A new era in Brandenburg-Prussian history had begun.
